- Gary Peake cast an interesting and, IMHO, valid perspective to this long-
- debated thread with the following post:

- I agree absolutely. The Amiga "is about Different".
-
- It does not appear to be destined to be a mass market platform; but it is
- wonderfully and excitingly different enough to attract a substantial user
- base who appreciate this difference and are willing to pay extra (within
- limits) for it.
-
- I just don't see how one can make a point by point comparison of the Amiga's
- performance with a clone's performance without taking into account the
- somewhat subjective concept of "being different". The Amiga isn't just a
- computer, it's a tradition.
-
- From the developing teams' signatures, including Jay Miner's dog's pawprints,
- all embossed on the underside of the cover of th A1000, to the absurdly
- amateurish look of original workbench GUI (compared to say, the Mac), to the
- inane 'Guru Meditation Alerts', it's always been a computer which has managed
- to thumb its nose, in challenge, at the more straightlaced platforms while
- offering novel options and solutions to what a computer is and how it should
- interface with its user.
-
- I don't deny that there are excellent arguements to be made for the Amiga's
- technological superiority in many respects, nor that there couldn't be some
- adjustment to the cost of Amigas; but the point of my post is to
- congratulate Gary on the eloquence of his statement:
-
- "The Amiga isn't about CHEAP, it's about DIFFERENT!"
